ER316L-Stainless Steel Wire
ER316L-Stainless Steel Wire
Technical Compliance: AWS 5.14 Class ER316L / ASME SFA 5.14 Class ER316L
Product Overview
ER316L is a superior low-carbon austenitic stainless steel welding wire enhanced with molybdenum, designed for Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) processes. This wire combines excellent low-temperature impact toughness with outstanding corrosion resistance, making it particularly suitable for pressure vessel applications in demanding environments.
Key Features & Benefits
Molybdenum Enhancement: The deliberate Mo addition provides enhanced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments, surpassing the capabilities of standard 308/309 series wires.
Ultra-Low Carbon Content (<0.03%): Prevents carbide precipitation during welding, eliminating intergranular corrosion susceptibility and ensuring long-term structural integrity.
Optimal Ferrite-Austenite Balance: Contains carefully balanced ferrite content within the austenitic structure, ensuring superior weld integrity and exceptional resistance to hot cracking during fabrication.
Excellent Low-Temperature Impact Toughness: Maintains remarkable mechanical properties and ductility even in cryogenic conditions as low as -196°C (-321°F).
Superior Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive media, including acids, alkalis, and chloride solutions.
Technical Specifications
Standards Compliance: Meets AWS A5.18 ER316L specifications.
Available Diameters: 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, and 1.6mm to accommodate various application requirements.
Chemical Composition:
Carbon: ≤0.03%

Applications
Pressure Vessels: Critical for applications requiring both excellent corrosion resistance and superior low-temperature impact properties in chemical processing, petrochemical, and power generation industries.
Low-Temperature Applications: Ideal for cryogenic storage tanks, LNG equipment, and industrial refrigeration systems operating in extreme cold conditions.
Marine and Offshore: Components exposed to saltwater and harsh marine environments where chloride-induced corrosion is a concern.
Architectural and Structural: Critical components in corrosive environments where both strength and durability are paramount.
Important Usage Guidelines
Shielding Gas Requirements:
Use CO₂ purity of 99.98% or higher to ensure weld integrity and prevent defects.
Maintain gas flow rate at ≥20 L/min for 1.2mm and 1.6mm wire diameters, adjusting accordingly for other sizes to ensure adequate coverage.
Environmental Conditions:
Provide adequate wind shielding around welding areas using temporary barriers or permanent enclosures.
Avoid outdoor welding in windy conditions unless proper windbreaks are established to maintain shielding gas effectiveness.
Surface Preparation:
Thoroughly remove all oil, grease, moisture, and surface contaminants using appropriate solvents and mechanical methods.
Why Choose ER316L?
ER316L combines advanced material science with practical welding advantages:
Proven Reliability: Consistently demonstrates excellent performance in corrosive environments and low-temperature applications.
Enhanced Performance: Molybdenum addition significantly improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments.
Operational Efficiency: Reduces maintenance costs and extends equipment service life through superior corrosion protection.
